Top Ten Privacy Tips

10. Avoid giving information to any company that says they might sell your information to other parties. You'll have to look closely at the site's privacy policy or statement to find this information.

9. Avoid accessing personal or private information such as e-mail on a public computer (i.e. work, school, library, etc.) because there is no guarantee that this information is not tracked, and you're probably not on a secure connection.

8. Don't give away information that companies don't have a right to know, such as your social security number.

7. Don't give out any personal information to people you meet in chat rooms, message boards or newsgroups, unless you know for sure who they are and have met them in person.  To protect your e-mail address against cyberstalkers and spam use a service such as Spamex.

6. If you have to send private or secret information through e-mail, make sure you encrypt it first with a product such as PGP.  You can also use Winzip for encryption, click here to learn how/why.

If you don't need to receive a reply, then click the following link to use a free Remailer.

5. Anonymizer is the way to go for privacy if you can afford it, $5/month.  Anonymizer is a service that allows surfers to connect to their proxy server and surf the web anonymously.  Cookies, spyware, etc. are intercepted at the server level and never reach your computer.  This is by far the best privacy protection available.

4. Cover your tracks with the following programs:
